Position Summary
The Access Control & Video Surveillance Technician is responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting electronic security systems including access control and video surveillance (VMS). This role is open to both junior and experienced technicians , offering growth opportunities from assisting on installations to leading projects and crews.
Responsibilities
- Install, program, test, and service access control systems including controllers, readers, locks, and door hardware
- Install and configure video surveillance systems including IP cameras, NVRs/DVRs, and VMS platforms
- Pull, terminate, label, and test low-voltage cabling (Cat5e/Cat6, coax)
- Assist with installations and learn system programming (junior level)
- Lead installations, commissioning, and troubleshooting efforts (lead level)
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network connectivity issues
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Document installations, service work, and system configurations
- Maintain professional communication with customers, project managers, and team members
- Follow safety standards, company policies, and industry best practices
Requirements
- 0–2 years of experience for junior candidates; 2+ years for experienced technicians
- Basic to advanced knowledge of access control, CCTV, and low-voltage systems
- Understanding of IP networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, PoE; VLANs a plus)
- Ability to use hand tools, test equipment, ladders, and lifts
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with platforms such as Verkada, Avigilon, Axis, Paxton, S2 (LenelS2), Milestone, or Software House (C•CURE)
- Experience with enterprise or cloud-managed security systems
- Familiarity with intercom or intrusion detection systems
- Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work on ladders, lifts, and in ceilings
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in various environments
Work Environment
- Commercial and industrial job sites
- Indoor and outdoor work as required
- Occasional after-hours, on-call, or emergency service work may be required
