Job Title: CNC Machinist Lead

Job Summary:
The CNC Machinist Lead is responsible for operating and overseeing CNC production machinery to ensure that all manufactured parts meet quality and print specifications. This role emphasizes accuracy, productivity, and collaboration, while also supporting preventive maintenance and process improvement efforts. The CNC Machinist Lead sets the tone for integrity, teamwork, and accountability within daily operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate CNC machines, including tooling setup, insert changes, offsets, and deburring of finished parts.

  • Manufacture components according to engineering prints, specifications, and GD&T requirements.

  • Perform quality assurance inspections using precision measurement tools to confirm part compliance.

  • Accurately document quality data and production metrics for reporting and improvement purposes.

  • Support preventive maintenance through routine machine checks and communication with maintenance staff.

  • Review production schedules, prioritize tasks, and prepare equipment and materials for daily operations.

  • Perform light corrective maintenance on CNC machines as needed.

  • Safely handle and move materials, including heavy components, using overhead cranes and hoists.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in compliance with company policies.

  • Participate in process improvement initiatives, including fixturing and tooling development.

Core Competencies:

  • CNC Programming Proficiency: Skilled in Mazatrol and G-code programming, including interpretation, editing, and troubleshooting.

  • Blueprint Reading & GD&T: Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and specifications.

  • Precision Measurement: Experienced in the use of micrometers, bore gauges, calipers, and height stands.

  • Quality & Compliance Awareness: Familiar with SPC principles and ISO quality systems to ensure standards are consistently met.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience operating and setting up CNC lathes and mills, including horizontal and vertical machining centers (preferred).

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to read, write, and document in English.

  • Proficient in recording production and quality data accurately and consistently.

Physical & Mental Demands:

  • Ability to safely handle and load parts over 500 lbs. using overhead cranes or hoists.

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. regularly.

  • Able to perform repetitive tasks with consistency and attention to detail.

  • Maintains safety, cleanliness, and organization in the workplace.
