Position Summary
The Building Automation Technician is responsible for the hands-on installation, wiring, configuration, and support of building automation systems (BAS) for HVAC, lighting, and fire/life safety integration. This position emphasizes expertise in conduit work, relay logic, low-voltage cabling, and field-level system control, with strong experience in Johnson Controls FX Series controllers, BFE integration, and lighting conductor installations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform professional conduit bending and installation (EMT, rigid, flex) using manual and powered benders to support system infrastructure.
  • Pull, terminate, and test low-voltage and control cabling, including CAT6, 18-2 shielded, 18-3 shielded, and lighting control conductors (e.g., 14–12 AWG THHN).
  • Install, wire, and configure BAS control panels and field devices, including sensors, actuators, relays, and lighting controllers.
  • Program, configure, and commission Johnson Controls FX Series controllers (e.g., FX-PCG, FX-PCX, FX Supervisory Controllers).
  • Utilize relay logic to implement sequences for HVAC, lighting, and emergency override systems.
  • Integrate and support BFE (Building Fire/Emergency) system interfaces—including shutdowns, overrides, and smoke control.
  • Interpret electrical blueprints, panel schedules, riser diagrams, and sequences of operation.
  • Collaborate with HVAC technicians, electricians, and project managers during system installations and upgrades.
  • Support system commissioning, functional testing, and service calls.
  • Maintain clean, labeled, and code-compliant installations and accurate documentation of as-builts and configurations.
  • Follow safety regulations and ensure all work meets NEC and local code standards.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical training in HVAC, electrical systems, or automation preferred.
  • Proficient in conduit bending and installation for control and lighting systems.
  • Experienced in pulling and terminating CAT6, 18-2/18-3 shielded, and lighting conductors.
  • Skilled in relay logic for control systems, overrides, and interlocks.
  • Hands-on experience with Johnson Controls FX Series controllers and familiarity with CCT and Launcher tools.
  • Knowledge of BACnet MS/TP, BACnet/IP, and other building automation communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with BFE system interfaces and life safety integration.
  • Competent in reading wiring diagrams and interpreting building plans.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Tridium Niagara N4 experience or certification.
  • OSHA 10/30 certification.
  • Experience with other BAS platforms such as Siemens, Honeywell, or Trane.
  • IP networking knowledge and basic IT troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience in lighting control systems such as Lutron, Wattstopper, or Enlighted is a plus.
