Position Summary

The Fire Alarm System Estimator is responsible for reviewing project documents, developing accurate cost estimates, and building competitive proposals for fire alarm and life safety system installations . This role works closely with project managers, engineers, vendors, and clients to ensure projects are scoped correctly and aligned with code requirements and project goals.


Responsibilities

Estimating & Proposal Development

  • Review and interpret architectural drawings, electrical plans, specifications, and addenda
  • Develop detailed material takeoffs, labor estimates, and bills of materials (BOMs)
  • Prepare complete bid proposals , including pricing, clarifications, exclusions, and value engineering options
  • Identify project risks and recommend cost-effective solutions

Technical & Code Compliance

  • Ensure all estimates align with NFPA 72, local AHJ requirements, and applicable building/fire codes
  • Select appropriate fire alarm systems, devices, and system architecture based on project scope

Collaboration & Communication

  • Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers for pricing, availability, and lead times
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineering teams during project handoff
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to clarify scope and resolve questions

Documentation & Process

  • Maintain records of historical costs, labor units, and pricing trends
  • Track bid status, deadlines, and follow-ups
  • Assist in improving estimating processes, templates, and standards

Requirements
  • 2–5+ years of fire alarm, low voltage, or electrical estimating experience
  • Strong understanding of fire alarm systems, components, and installation practices
  • Familiarity with NFPA 72 and applicable building/fire codes
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Experience with estimating software, takeoff tools, and Microsoft Office
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • NICET Level II or higher in Fire Alarm Systems
  • Experience with manufacturers such as Notifier, Siemens, Edwards, Honeywell, or Simplex
  • Background in low voltage, electrical, life safety, or construction industries
  • Experience working with contractors, AHJs, engineers, and integrators
